Region Barossa Valley, SA Variety Shiraz
The Winemaking team of Peter Lehman, Dr Chris Taylor and MW Andrew Caillard have created the 2014 Caillard Shiraz from unique colonial vine stock form the hearland of the Barossa. The label painting is inspired by the phoenix and dragon motifs, is of an Australian Bird of paradise and Goanna, set against the rich red siol and landscape of the region. Andrew's tasting notes describe are a deep crimson coloured Shiraz.Intense mulberry and blackerry aromas and a oaky savoury complexity. The pallate is saturated with complex dark fruits ,hints of liquorice , fine grainy tannins and underpinned by the oak.Such a clean finish of persisitent fruit and chalky tannins. Drinking well now or cellar until 2025 if you can wait.

Gary Walsh, the

Such a precise wine for the Barossa, almost delicate you might say. Raspberry, boysenberry, pecan, praline - all perfumed and spiced. Medium boded with gently fine grained tannin, bell clear acidity that rings true through the wine, juicy fresh faced berry flavours and a very long precise finish with something of a new leather perfume in the aftertaste. Superb to drink.
