Coolangatta Estate 2009 Elizabeth Berry Cabernet Sauvignon $22This wine has been one of the real surprise packets from Coolangatta Estate which is better known for its outstanding semillon, chardonnay and more recently tempranillo and tanat. Medium bodied with lashings of red and black fruit, nicely balanced oak and rounded tannins. Drink with a rare rump steak.Apple Tree Flat 2009 Shiraz $11The colder months are closing in and it's time to start stocking up on some winter quaffers. This new release, from Mudgee/Orange producer Logan Wines, will give you plenty of bang for your buck with its rich plum and berry fruit flavours, spicy characters and juicy tannins. Drink with a bowl of spaghetti bolognese.Jim Barry Lavender Hill 2010 Sweet Riesling $14.95This new vintage from the Clare Valley comes with a bit of tweak - a little less sweetness and a smart new label. From one of the best vintages in recent years it's low in alcohol, bright and breezy and a bit like swallowing a fruit bowl with flavours in the citrus, tropical, pear and melon spectrum, sprightly acidity and a crisp, refreshing finish. Drink with Thai cuisine.Highgate 2007 Cabernet Merlot $22The Highgate label is owned by premium wine wholesalers Single Vineyard Sellers with this blend of cool climate Adelaide Hills fruit crafted on their behalf by boutique operator Setanta Wines. It's nicely balanced and makes smooth drinking with upfront blackberry fruit, a touch of spice, chocolate characters, good oak treatment and supple tannins. Drink with lamb cutlets.
