AFTER a wet and wild opening to the Shoal Bay Jazz, Wine and Food Festival, the missing ingredient organisers had prayed for, sunshine, came out yesterday.

It was a welcome relief for organisers, who had to move festivities from the Shoal Bay waterfront indoors on Saturday when rain battered Port Stephens.

"We had extreme weather warnings and it was almost cyclonic weather," festival organiser Rebecca Smith said.

"We had to move into the Shoal Bay Resort and Spa conference centre. But [yesterday] was just amazing."

More than 1500 lovers of food, wine and jazz strolled through the gates for the 15th annual festival, with all cooking classes, wine tasting sessions and lunches booked out.

It was held for the first time over two days.

"Every year it is bigger and better. The weather couldn't hold us back," Ms Smith said.
