COOLANGATTA Estate vigneron Greg Bishop will be on the fingertips of every household in the Shoalhaven during the next 12 months.
Sensis decided to recognise him as one of Australia's food and beverage industry heroes by featuring a photo of him on the cover of Nowra's 2008/09 White Pages directory.Mr Bishop has been a pioneer in the Shoalhaven Coast wine industry. From humble beginnings two decades ago his vineyard at Coolangatta Estate has received more than 800 wine industry awards and 56 trophies. The historic village, the first European settlement on the South Coast, with its unique accommodation, cellar door and restaurants, attracts more than 110,000 visitors a year. But Mr Bishop and his family are the most down to earth and genuine people you could ever wish to meet and he was a little taken aback when he heard his face was going to be seen every day for the next 12 months by everyone living in the region. It is an honour befitting a man who has helped the Shoalhaven Coast become recognised as a wine region.Sensis chose him to grace the cover of the phone book after it heard about him being one of the first grape growers in the region and a founding member of the Shoalhaven Coast Wine Industry Association. He has convinced many others of the Shoalhaven's potential as a maritime climate wine growing region that produces its own distinct flavours. He was also noted for his willingness to support local fresh produce.
