AUSTRALIAN Vintage Ltd, formerly McGuigan Simeon Wines, notched 18 awards at the recent Pacific Rim International Wine Competition in San Bernardino, California.

One of its flagship reds, the Yaldara Farms 2006 Shiraz, won the trophy for the best $US30 and over shiraz class.

The wine, which comes from what used to be Herman Thumm's Chateau Yaldara operation in the Barossa Valley, is due for release next year.

The 2004 version won a gold medal in the 2004 $US30 and over shiraz class.

It is priced at $70 and still available.

Wine critic John Lewis reviewed the wine in November and gave it five stars.

McGuigan's new 2006 The Shortlist Shiraz also won a gold medal in the 2006 $15 to $30 shiraz class.

Neil McGuigan, Australian Vintage's general manager of production and wine supply, said the show was open to wines from throughout the Pacific Rim and the results demonstrated how Yaldara was evolving into a site that could enrich the company's premium and super-premium portfolio.
