THE Illawarra and South Coast has a new regional hero. The chambourcin grape variety has been allocated varietal hero status in the Shoalhaven by the NSW Wine Industry Association.
The association has launched a promotional campaign to highlight varietal heroes in 14 NSW wine regions and lists chambourcin as having a special relationship with the South Coast. The complex hybrid produced in France by Joannes Seyve is disease resistant and performs well in humid climates.Chambourcin grapes are also versatile and are used to make dry and sweet red wine.
