THIS week all the surfing action will be at Merewether Beach for Surfest.

Surfest is an annual surfing competition that includes a range of different categories, including the Mark Richards Pro, high-schools team challenge, Cadet Cup and expression sessions.

While a lot of the action is on the water, there is still plenty to do on dry land, including this weekend's Wine and Waves Festival at Jefferson Park, Merewether, just behind the surf club.

A range of different Hunter restaurants will be selling food on both Saturday and Sunday and you will be able to buy wine by the glass or the bottle.
