THE Freeman 2003 Rondinella Corvina, about which I wrote last October 3, has won high praise from wine writer and Maurice O'Shea biographer Campbell Mattinson.
Mattinson declares the Hilltops red the best new-style Australian red in his The Wine Front Red Album.Mattinson's book reviews 4000 red wines and is available at $27.95 from www.winefront.com.au.The first rondinella-corvina made in 2002 came on the market at $35 a bottle in 2005. The 2003 has now been released and last year it won the trophy for the best wine made from lesser recognised grape varieties at the 2007 Sydney International Wine Competition. It also won a Chairman's Wine to Watch award from Max Allen at last year's Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show.Freeman wines are available by mail order on (02) 6384 4299 or www.freemanvineyards.com.au.
