THE Hunter has a new wine region on its northern doorstep.

New England has been named Australia's latest official wine region by the Geographical Indications Committee .

The committee was established by the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation to determine regional geographical indications for wine and protect the integrity of vineyard areas.

Following the recent announcement, New England winegrowers will be able to put a regional brand on their products.
