THE South Coast Wine Show and public tasting will be held at the Milton Show Ground Pavilion on Australia Day.

More than 150 wines from the two distinct districts in the South Coast wine zone will be judged and be available for public tasting, with plenty of diversity.

The warm maritime climate of the Shoalhaven Coast stretching from Kiama to Batemans Bay produces different-styled wines to the cool climate region of the Southern Highlands, which includes towns such as Mittagong and Moss Vale.

The riesling, pinot gris and pinot noir varieties are suited to the Southern Highlands, while semillon, verdelho and chambourcin have found a niche on the Shoalhaven Coast.

Both regions also boast some good cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and shiraz.

Entry to the public tasting is $15 per person and tickets will be available at the door.

A wine dinner will be staged at the Vineyard Kitchen at Cupitt's Winery, Ulladulla, on February 8, 2009.
