History
Mudgee was first settle by Europeans in the 1820s, and by the 1860s, it was already on its way to producing wines for the thirsty occupants of the region. The region boomed after the nearby discoveries of gold, but it has been wine and agriculture that has sustained the community since.
The modern phase of wine making began in Mudgee in the '60s, and experienced further boom in the 1990s as its cellar door services increased followed with a reinvigorated hospitality industry. Now, Mudgee features many fine restaurants and eateries, organised tours and a range of accommodation from bed and breakfast to hotels making it a popular and important destination for lovers of wine.
