History
The Hunter Valley claims the title of Australia's oldest wine region, and the area was settles in the early 1800s. There was 20 acres of vineyards in place by 1823, and by 1840, that was expanded to over 500 acres. Many varieties of grape were planted from South Africa and Europe that allowed the region to develop into its currently established position.
The Hunter Valley developed throughout the 1900s driven by the passion and enthusiasm of the generations of winemakers that perfected their craft in the naturally lush region. The area flourished, and many of the original vineyards have become institutions in Australian wine.
